Félix Hernández and Johan Santana officially entered the Temple of Immortals

Pitchers Johan “El Gocho” Santana and Félix “El Rey” Hernández, both Venezuelan pitchers with the most wins in major league history, will be inducted into the prestigious Latin Baseball Hall of Fame in the Dominican Republic.

The Creoles were immortalized in the eleventh enthronement ceremony, together with the Curazolean Andruw Jones and the Dominicans Álex Rodríguez and Alfonso Soriano.

Throughout his 12-season career between 2000 and 2012 with the New York Mets, they crushed the Minnesota Twins 15-2, Santana played 360 games, 284 as a starter, and recorded 139 successes and 78 setbacks.

In 2006 with the Twins, he won the Triple Crown in pitching with 19 wins, 245 fans and a 2.77 ERA. The man from Merida is the only Venezuelan to have won the Cy Young Award twice, which he won for the first time in 2004 with 20 victories. He repeated it in 2006, El Líder reviews.

For his part, Hernández tops the historic list of Venezuelan winners with 169 wins in 419 games with the Seattle Mariners in 15 seasons between 2005 and 2020.

In 2010, he won the American League Cy Young Award. On August 15, 2012, he pitched Perfect Game against Tampa in Seattle. For eight consecutive seasons between 2008 and 2015, he released at least 200 entries. Between 2009 and 2014, he recorded six seasons of at least 200 strikeouts.

With the inclusion of Santana and Hernández in the Hall, the number of Venezuelan former major leagues awarded this award has risen to 14: Luis Aparicio (2010), David Concepción (2010), Andrés Galarraga (2011), Jesús Marcano Trillo (2012), Antonio Armas (2013), Luis Salazar (2014), César Tovar (2014), Oswaldo Guillén (2015), Omar Vizquel (2016), Edgardo Alfonzo (2017), Baudilio Díaz (2018) and Bob Abreu (2023).

The eleventh class of the Latin Hall of Fame came out of a preliminary list consisting of 150 names, which was reduced to 40 by a panel of communicators from across the continent. In the final stage, Jones received the most votes with 16, followed by Santana (12), Hernández y Rodríguez (11) and Soriano (10).
