The general director of the State Office
of Culture of Apure, Luisa Martínez, presented at the Venezuelan International
Book Fair (FILVEN) located in Plaza Bolívar de Guasdualito the centenary
edition of the novel Ifigenia, by Teresa de la Parra, published
by Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana.
“She (Teresa de la Parra) expresses with
feeling, refinement and great delicacy those concerns and uncertainties
that were experienced more than a century ago,” Martínez said about the role
that women have played in society and their struggles to be recognized.
He emphasized remembering Teresa de la Parra as a
rebel and avant-garde. “And I applaud and admire those types of women,” she said.
In Iphigenia, Teresa de la Parra penetrates the small
things of provincial Caracas and the limitations to which the young women of that time were
subjected, bringing the reader closer to the individual and
collective universe of a heroine who has transcended time.
