The Brazilian Amazon increased fires by 61% in the first half of 2024, according to information provided by official sources.

In this regard, they indicated that 13,489 fires have been registered so far this year, a figure that exceeds that of 2023, which counted 8,344.

For its part, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), noted that 1,525 square kilometers of Amazon rainforest were deforested in the first half of this year, 42% less than during the same period in 2023.
