Five young Bolivarenses will represent Venezuela in the 6th edition of the Vietnam International Applied Mathematics Competition

Five talented students from the state of Bolivar will represent Venezuela in the 6th edition of the Vietnam International Applied Mathematics Competition (VIAMC 2026), a global event organized by the Institute for STEM Research and Talent Development (Iastem), focused on the practical application of mathematics to real problems of science and technology.
This competition, as reported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, seeks to promote a passion for mathematics as a practical tool, develop analytical skills and prepare young people for global challenges.
Venezuelans will compete in the Junior category (levels 4: grades 7-8) with Ibrahim Rahwan Falaha (12 years old), Franco Paolo Abate (12 years old) and Fabrizzio Luciano Abate (14 years old); and in Intermediate (level 5: grades 9-10) with Joseph David Pérez (13 years old) and Axel Hernández (15 years old), all from the state of Bolívar.
The exam includes multiple-choice sections and short answers, adapted by level: from visual logic in elementary school to mathematical modeling in higher education.
The national round for countries that participated in person mode began in November 2025. While the young people who competed in the online mode had the round on January 31.
The online competition involved 41 students from Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil and Venezuela. Of the total, 35 went on to the final.
The scientific hotbed, Axel Hernández, won a bronze medal. While his classmates received honorable mention.
The international round will take place from March 5 to 8, highlighting the logical and analytical thinking of participants from elementary school to high school.
