On Monday, Paraguayan authorities evacuated about 100 families from the San Rafael neighborhood, in Ciudad del Este, after severe floods caused by the flooding of the Paraná River due to intense rainfall in the department of Alto Paraná.
Warning about weather conditions and the deployment of response personnel in the affected area, Defense Minister Óscar González said that the intensity of the rains will continue in the next few hours according to the forecasts of the monitoring agencies.
Regarding the recurrence of the phenomenon in the area and the efforts to protect the vulnerable population, the head of the National Emergency Secretariat, Arsenio Zárate, explained that floods in this lowland neighborhood occur cyclically in the region.
The Paraguayan Government coordinated the transfer of those affected to the local chapel and the sports center of the country's second largest city, while organized communities demand permanent structural solutions to the environmental vulnerability faced by working families.
