The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, during his speech at the plenary session of the XIX Summit of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL), expressed the need to move forward in convening an International Peace Conference.

From Kampala, Republic of Uganda, the head of the Venezuelan delegation explained that such a call must be sponsored by the United Nations (UN) and aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict in Palestine, as well as “promoting the realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including to establish their free and independent State and to facilitate their entry as a full member of the United Nations, which has been delayed for long enough time”.

On behalf of the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Foreign Minister reiterated his solidarity to Palestine, while urging us to “raise our voices and to move forward with urgency, determination and forcefulness” in demanding an “ immediate, lasting, sustainable and respected ceasefire”, which, according to the diplomat, would facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid.

In addition, he called for an end to “the prevailing cycle of impunity that has been emboldening the Israeli regime to advance with greater brutality its policies aimed at exterminating an entire people”.

The senior diplomat questioned how “the occupying power (Israel), with total impunity, is committing a real genocide against the heroic Palestinian people and that, in the last hundred days of this latest escalation of the conflict, it has already claimed the lives of more than 1% of the Palestinian population”.

In this regard, he specified that “the time has come for our MNOAL to assume with greater determination and a sense of urgency its rightful leading role in efforts to advance the Palestinian cause, which has been, is and will continue to be central to our Movement, because of its positions of principle against colonialism, oppression, occupation, domination and apartheid”.

Gil urged “to put an end to all inflammatory rhetoric, reckless or unilateral action that has the potential to further escalate tensions, not only in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, but in the Middle East region as a whole, which would result in a greater spiral of violence that undoubtedly threatens peace, security and stability, both regional and global.”
