The Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Freddy Ñáñez reported that the fire in the Henri Pittier National Park was controlled and liquidated.
“After a restart of fire due to strong winds in the La Placera sector, hand-to-hand combat operations with manual tools were reactivated during the early morning,” Ñáñez explained in a post on his Telegram channel.
The minister stressed that 78 volunteers and officials participated in the operation, who remained on the ground with dedication and discipline. “Once again, our forest, urban and volunteer firefighters, in perfect union and risking their lives, managed to liquidate the fire,” he said.
“At 3:00 in the morning of this Friday 30th, we gained control of the event, and at 8:00 AM we reinforced liquidation efforts, including air support with the PA001 aircraft, to ensure an effective and safe auction,” he explained.
Ñáñez indicated that the most affected vegetation was mainly savanna. “The essential mission was accomplished: the fire did not advance into the forest or reach the Caño Colorado basins,” he added.
He also thanked the governor of the state of Aragua, Johanna Sánchez, for all her support.
“We are still in a phase of liquidation and active surveillance. Protecting nature is defending life!” , he noted.
