From America to Europe! Venezuelan athletics conquers new brands

Venezuelan athletics achieved outstanding performances with two national records, a better position in the ranking to conquer a world quota and important personal records during various competitions held last weekend.
National representatives excelled in track and field tests at indoor and outdoor events, according to a press release from the Ministry of People's Power for Sport.
On Bolivian soil, sprinter Bryant Álamo won the silver medal in the 60-meter Jürgen Berodt match, where he also improved his personal record to 6.65.
Later, in the South American Underground Championship in Cochabamba, Álamo stripped Eubrig Maza of the national record of 6.61 and set a new national record for the 60-meter 6.59.
This cap gave Álamo the second silver metal and raised him to 50th position in the World Athletics qualifying ranking ahead of the World Indoor Championship that will take place between March 20 and 22 in Poland and in which only the best 56 sprinters in the world will participate.
The selection period for the universal joust will close on March 8.
For her part, the capital Glanyernis Guerra won her first bronze podium in her international debut in events of this type in the 60 meters. He had just improved his personal record at the Jurgen Berodt Meeting at 7.36, a time that he renewed in the South American Championship at 7.24 in a final that led Brazil's Ana Acevedo with a record of the championship with 7.09.
In addition, the Olympic jumper, Leodan Torrealba, also took the podium in the South American joust, who scored bronze in the triple jump after performing a better takeoff of 16.18 in the final of the specialty, his compatriot Wuilliam Landínez ranked fourth with 16.06.
In the women's triple, the nationals Ornelis Ortiz and Genesis Pire made their mark at the same distance with a best attempt of 12.92 that placed them in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The Guairense decathlonist Gerson Izaguirre showed his best form in the Spanish Indoor Championship, establishing a new Venezuelan record in the 5,753-point heptathlon.
The Creole left partials of 7.06; 7.37; 14.29; 1.94; 7.95; 4.56 and 2:54.25. The previous test record of 5,680 was under his control since February 16, 2024.
Also on Iberian soil, the multi-medalist of the Ayacucho Lima 2025 Bolivarians, Edymar Brea, became the absolute women's champion in the A Coruña Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour 13 minutes 55 seconds; in this way, she updated the personal record she set at the beginning of last February in the CAF Half Marathon of 1:15.58.
At the start of the open-air season in the United States, Venezuelan runner Gabriel Guzmán competed in the 3,000 flat meters of the Rossi Relays event, where he scored a new personal record of 8:05.92 and took second place in the race that his counterpart Pedro Marín dominated with 8:04.95, the new Colombian limit in the distance for the under-23 category.
After the important achievements achieved by the tricolor representation on foreign soil, efforts will be directed to the next national competition on March 6 and 7 when the first stop of the National Athletics League will take place in its second edition.
