FUNVISIS deepens post-seismic inspections in Ocumare de la Costa de Aragua

The commission of researchers from the Department of Earthquake Geology of the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) carried out a thorough inspection in the Ocumare municipality of the Gold Coast of Aragua to provide an updated report after the earthquake of June 24.

Under the logistical guidelines of the governor of the entity, Joana Sánchez, the experts carried out the work aimed at providing a detailed diagnosis of the geological and structural effects. The objective is to advance risk mitigation and recovery plans in the municipality.

The team corroborated the landslides on the road to Cata Bay, as well as between Pérez Galindo and Juan Andrés. The temples of San Francisco de Asís in Cata, Immaculada Concepción in Cuyagua and San Sebastián” in the center of town were evaluated, which presented horizontal cracks in walls, as well as damage to masonry and cladding. Namely, the rehabilitation will be carried out by the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC).
