The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) reported this Thursday that the installation of the new CN64-Caracas geodesic station in its spaces was successfully completed.

Through his Instagram account, he indicated that this was done within the framework of the continuous strengthening of the seismological monitoring system and the evaluation of tectonic risks in the country.

“This important technical-scientific work was carried out by a team of FUNVISIS researchers, in strategic cooperation with engineer Adam Woolace, representative of the 'EarthScope Consortium', an international scientific institution dedicated to promoting research, instrumentation and education in geophysical sciences at a global level,” he added.

In addition, he explained that to ensure the continuous collection of high-precision data, the station has an infrastructure that includes a satellite navigation receiver and antenna, a real-time data transmission system supported by satellite internet technology.

It also has a battery bank with a backup power system that ensures its uninterrupted operation in the event of possible electrical failures.

He stated that the installed equipment has a high-precision range “capable of measuring ground movement as slow as one millimeter (0.04 inches) per year and soil deformation on an extremely fine scale.”

“This can include the gradual tectonic movement that stresses faults and the sudden movement of faults during earthquakes. They can even measure the tenuous response of the solid part of the Earth to changes in groundwater levels to the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere,” he said.

With the installation of this technological node, FUNVISIS consolidates the State's capacities in prevention, geophysical diagnosis and protection of the population.
