The community of El Cercado, in the Gómez municipality of Nueva Esparta state, celebrated the festivities of its patron saint, The Great Power of God, with a day that combined religious, cultural and traditional expressions, marked by the award of the patrimonial certificate to the Margarite galerón.

The event was attended by the Minister for Culture, Raúl Cazal, who highlighted the value of this musical event as one of the most representative expressions of Venezuelan cultural identity.

During the ceremony, together with Deputy Minister Gabriela Simoza, he formalized the delivery of the document that recognizes the galerón as an Asset of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

The Margarita galerón is registered in the Venezuelan Cultural Heritage Register and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2005, a recognition that was later ratified by publication in the Official Gazette.

The celebration also included the start of the Gómez 2026 Craft Tourism Fair, where artisans from the region exhibited traditional handmade products, as well as the reopening of the José Ramón Villarroel Square, dedicated to one of the main exponents of this musical genre.

The program culminated with artistic performances, tenths performed by boys and girls from traditional singing schools and samples of popular dances, in a day that exalted traditions, historical memory and Neo-Spartan cultural identity.
