The second week of 2024 begins with massive farmer protests in Germany against the policies promoted by the Government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Primary sector workers are demonstrating across the country, including the capital Berlin. Images released on social networks show tractors and trucks, some of them with protest banners, blocking the main roads of the European nation.

According to RT on its website, around 550 agricultural vehicles are concentrated in front of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, including 200 tractors, 100 trucks, 100 cars and about 100 vans, which could seriously hamper traffic in the city.

Meanwhile, in the state of Saxony, access to motorways has been cut off and numerous crossings have been blocked. According to the Police, 1,000 agricultural vehicles have already been concentrated in one district of the state. In the state of Brandenburg, access roads to almost all motorways have also been blocked. For their part, the Munich Police report that about 5,500 tractors are heading to the center of the Bavarian capital from different directions.

The protests were generated after the authorities' intention to eliminate agricultural subsidies after the Scholz Government agreed on a package of measures to combat the multi-million dollar deficit in the federal budget.

The German Farmers Association promises to continue with the protests until the Government completely abandons the measures, since some of the planned cuts in subsidies will result in an unacceptable loss of income and that in this matter “there can be no compromises”.
