Government and pig sector coordinate distribution and prices for the holiday season

The Minister of Popular Power for Industries and National Trade, Luis Antonio Villegas, led a working meeting with representatives of the national pig sector and marketing chains, with the purpose of coordinating distribution, optimizing supply chains and ensuring timely access by the population to these food products during the holiday season.

During the coordination day with the commercial sector, the representative of the FORUM supermarket chain, Luis García, highlighted the scope of the agreements reached, stating: “Of everything that is pork, establish agreements between the retail sector and guarantee the best price for consumers. And we will continue working on future agreements in the private sector and with the government directly.”

According to information published by the Ministry of Popular Power for Communication and Information (MIPPCI) for his part, the president of Procero, Eduardo Bianco, affirmed the operational capacity of the primary sector to supply the domestic market, stating: “This year we plan to benefit around a million and a half of pigs; this will guarantee the pig the service for December with complete certainty.”

Government authorities highlighted that domestic production has maintained sustained growth since 2021. In this regard, strategic alliances between the Executive and private businesses seek to strengthen the coverage of the demand for animal protein to consolidate food sovereignty in the last months of the year.
