The Ministry of Health (SESAll) of Honduras issued a national alert regarding the threat of Measles, a highly contagious disease, highlighting the need to reinforce controls at borders and entry points to this Central American country.

This measure seeks to intensify prevention, epidemiological surveillance, control and health response actions, since the country failed to achieve the minimum percentage of herd immunity necessary to prevent possible outbreaks, according to information portals in the Latin country.

The Honduran Minister of Health, Carla Paredes said that “ we are currently on high alert for measles. Belize already has it, and crossing Puerto Barrios and entering Cedeño is the easiest thing in the world for such a contagious virus.”

Therefore, people entering Honduras must present their updated proof of vaccination, especially for all those born between 2014 and 2024. For adults, immunity is considered permanent if they have already received the vaccine.
