On Friday night, the Government
of Daniel Noboa executed the illegal invasion of police forces at the Embassy of Mexico in Quito, Ecuador.
With this violent action, the
Ecuadorian police forcibly took former Vice President Jorge Glas, who had been a refugee in the Mexican Embassy since last December, and who had been granted political asylum by the
government of the Aztec country on the afternoon of April 5.
“As criminals raided the Mexican
embassy in Ecuador, this is crazy (...) this is out of the ordinary,”
said the head of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Roberto Canseco, while recounting that he was beaten
to the floor for opposing them entering the diplomatic compound.
In this regard, he expressed concern for
Glas “because they can kill him (...) and they are doing it because he is a
persecuted person”.
He commented that they were preparing to leave when they attacked the diplomatic headquarters “and suddenly we found criminal police officers who entered (...) this is something totally unacceptable”.
Faced with the flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the injuries suffered by Mexican diplomatic personnel in Ecuador. Mexico broke diplomatic relations with the South American nation.
