The Spanish government is unilaterally canceling a contract for the purchase of ammunition from an Israeli company after internal pressure over the genocide in Gaza, Hispantv said.
This Thursday, Pedro Sánchez's government unilaterally canceled a contract with an Israeli company for the purchase of ammunition for its police force, yielding to pressure from its left-wing coalition partner, Sumar.
Spain, a long-time critic of Israel's policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, pledged in October 2023 to stop selling arms to Israel because of its military aggression against the Gaza Strip, and last year expanded that commitment to include the purchase of weapons from Israel.
On April 17, as the Spanish people were preparing for the Holy Week holiday weekend, Madrid submitted documentation confirming the agreement on the government's tender website.
