The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, supported the proposal for a General Amnesty Law presented by the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, describing it as a fundamental legal-political instrument for consolidating peace and dialogue in the country.
Bernal, in a statement to the media, emphasized that this measure is a clear demonstration of the will of the Bolivarian Government to find democratic solutions.
“The opposition must understand that the path is not terrorism, nor does it ask for invasions or coups d'etat, but the vote,” said the regional president, stressing that the regulations should not cause concern among the population.
He also recalled that Venezuela has a tradition of using this tool to pacify the Republic.
In this regard, he recalled the year 1992, when the then President of the Republic, Rafael Caldera, applied a similar measure that allowed the Bolivarian military to abandon the path of weapons.
He also cited the pardon granted after the events of the coup against President Hugo Chávez.
The proposal, which covers the period of political violence from 1999 to the present, will be processed by the Presidential Commission for the Revolution of the Justice System and the Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace.
Both instances will be responsible for submitting the bill to the National Assembly for debate and subsequent approval.
