The Binational Special Economic Zone (ZEEB) focuses on reactivating the business fabric of the state of Táchira and encouraging investment to boost commercial exchange and productive development in the border region.

This was stated by the governor of the entity, Freddy Bernal, who pointed out the need for the economic reactivation of the Colombian-Venezuelan border and emphasized his willingness to receive domestic and foreign investment for integration, development and employment generation.

He also stressed that the Special Economic Zone “is the key that will open the way to prosperity in the coming years.”

On May 12, the presentation of the ZEEB Bill was supported by the living forces of the state of Táchira, business associations, academic sectors and representatives of the democratic opposition. “It's an example of governance” based on a common objective, Bernal said.

The document submitted to the National Assembly (AN) also contains a proposal on financial matters, which includes the authorization of exchange operators and exchange offices to combat “economic distortion” due to the use of a multi-currency system, with the Colombian peso and the dollar playing a leading role against the bolivar, which generates exchange rate speculation and affects the quality of life of the Tachirense population.

The governor stressed that the proposal for the Binational Special Economic Zone is part of the Master Plan promoted by the regional government for the development of Táchira.

He ratified that this initiative seeks to strengthen integration, especially in the Táchira-Norte de Santander Axis, with the application of tax incentives and the simplification of customs procedures, in accordance with the Law on Special Economic Zones.
