At the start of the rainy season in the south of the country, the governor of the state of Amazonas, Miguel Rodríguez, went personally to the town of La Esmeralda, capital of the Alto Orinoco municipality, to monitor the effects caused by recent rainfall in the region.
Through a post on his Instagram account, the regional president noted that during his tour he found that the sector known as "La Costa" is currently underwater.
He also reported that a significant part of the local airstrip is flooded, which has significantly complicated air operations and logistical access to the area.
“The month of May is just over and the rains are starting to cause difficulties in our beloved Amazon. We are here to ensure that care reaches our people directly and effectively,” said Rodríguez.
As part of the immediate response, the Government team has mobilized a shipment of essential supplies, including medicines and food, to initiate social approaches both in La Esmeralda and in surrounding communities that have also suffered the onslaught of floods.
The Governor stressed that these actions are part of an articulated effort between the National Government, the Government, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), the Mayor's Office and organized popular power. “It's a team effort with our humble and noble people in the municipality who help us every step of the way,” he said.
Rodríguez reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the territory to monitor climate change and ensure timely solutions. “We will always continue to stand up all over the country, helping people,” he reiterated.
