Last Friday, April 25, in the Simon Bolivar Hall of the Bolivarian University of Venezuela, it was the scene of the Great Meeting with the candidates of the country, where various social organizations gathered, including the Tenant Movement, the Occupant Movement, the Zero Platform and the Settlers movement, among others. The event also brought together leaders and representatives from Caracas, highlighting the presence of the representative Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra.
During the meeting, 21 years of struggle of the Tenant Movement were celebrated, where significant achievements were shared and new goals were established for the right to decent housing. Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra emphasized the need to create an inter-institutional working group involving the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Ministry of People's Power for the Interior and Peace, with the objective of addressing recent evictions driven by private interests.
“A tenant who has lived in a building for 20 years cannot be considered an invader,” said Maduro Guerra, stressing the importance of defending the rights of the people. In this context, a call was made to the National Assembly to continue to protect the rights of those who fight for decent housing.
In addition, citizens were reminded of the importance of participating in the next elections. This Sunday, the second national consultation will be held to choose community projects, and crucial elections will be held on May 25. The candidates urged the population to learn about the proposals and to choose those who have been on the side of the needs of the people.
For his part, Rigel Serget, candidate for Circuit 3 of Caracas, highlighted the ethics and morals of his team to request the vote and continue working in the National Assembly for the fundamental rights of citizens.
