In a statement, the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations rejected the aggression by the United States against the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. They express their concern and categorical rejection of the hostile actions of the Government of the United States of America against Venezuela, which seeks to undermine the country's sovereignty and independence.
They also reaffirm their unwavering solidarity with the people and National Government, a founding member of this group and with their inalienable right to freely determine their own political, economic, and social direction, without external pressure, threats or coercion and in peace.
In this regard, the Group of Friends of the UN also recognizes Venezuela's efforts in the fight against the world drug problem, in line with its relevant national and international obligations. It also recalls “the latest report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which reveals, among others, that Venezuela is a territory free of illicit cultivation and cocaine processing”.
Finally, they urged the United States to put an end to unilateral coercive measures and its military threats “as instruments of foreign policy.”
