The Carnival celebrations began in Tumremo, the administrative capital of Guayana Esequiba, with a school parade that brought together more than 18 educational institutions, whose students paraded through the streets with groups inspired by Venezuelan cultural expressions.
The governor of Guyana Esequiba, Neil Villamizar, stressed that the day marks the beginning of a program that involves communities across the region.
“Today we celebrate with the people. Music and calypso accompany children, young people and adults. Joy is part of our identity and we defend it with determination,” he said.
Villamizar invited families to participate in the activities planned during the holidays, stating that coexistence and tranquility will guide every day.
The mayor of the Sifontes municipality, Vicente Rojas, reported that the operation involves the participation of more than 12 calypso groups and a security device composed of 1,200 officials from different bodies. He indicated that, after receiving 8,000 visitors in 2025, it is estimated that this year there will be more than 11,000 participants.
“From Friday to Tuesday, we will be taking care of those who arrive in Tumremo. This celebration is a national reference,” he said.
The musical program included the performance of The Same People, an emblematic group of calypso, whose participation marked the closing of the first day.
The authorities reiterated the invitation to residents and visitors to enjoy the planned activities in the administrative capital of Guyana Esequiba, where a cultural and recreational program will be held throughout the holiday period.
