This Monday, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, sent his words of condolences to the families of Monsignor Mario Moronta and the communicator Elías Santa, who died on August 4.

In his program Con Maduro+, he noted that “in the 80s it was a reference for our youth and was one of the few voices that spoke for the massacres of 27 and 28 1989, one of the few voices that from the church approached Commander Hugo Chávez in his prison in San Carlos and then in Yare (...) Then the paths differentiated us, but we always respect that.”

He added that “I convey to the entire Venezuelan Catholic Church, to their families our condolences, solidarity and good memories of that time.”

In relation to Elías Santana, he noted that “we were friends” and noted that “we always had contact (...) lately he gave us very valuable recommendations to promote issues of neighborhood coexistence, for example, justices of the peace, it was his idea.”

“To his wife and family all our solidarity, condolences and my memory,” he concluded.
