The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted that more than 60% of those attending the installation of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace were opponents, many of whom, historically, have been contrary to his administration and even to Commander Hugo Chávez.

He pointed out that these representatives of the political opposition have moved towards dialogue, and for this reason he deeply appreciated the installation of this body, which he considers a platform for reconciliation and the defense of the sovereignty and peace of the nation.

“From being fierce opponents, we have gone on to dialogue, to listening to each other and, as Simón Rodríguez said, to helping each other. We have never, ever denied each other help, support, a look, a word, so I am deeply grateful that this instance of national union is installed,” he stressed.

He said that “I respect all people, I am a Christian and I tend to love the humble more, those who have nothing, that's what I learned in my home, from my mother, my father. I thank God, who made me a revolutionary.”

He also stressed that he also thanked “God for having another father: Hugo Chávez, a father-teacher”.

The head of state emphasized that “today they are trying to build an absolutely immoral narrative”.
