Helena Salcedo calls for world peace and denounces violence against Palestinian journalists

The winner of the Simón Bolívar Single National Journalism Award, 2025 edition, Helena Salcedo dedicated her recognition to the journalists killed in Gaza and launched a strong call for world peace, urging the Venezuelan journalistic community to assume a leading role in the defense of truth and sovereignty.

During her speech in honor of the winners, at the Miraflores Palace, and with the presence of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the journalist dedicated heartfelt words of recognition to the more than 200 communication professionals who have been killed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, while spreading the truth for the genocide in this Middle Eastern territory.

“The fight for truth is the only way for those of us who assume journalism as a vision and a commitment to reporting events that shake and shake humanity,” he said, and then criticized international human rights organizations for their inaction and cowardice in the face of these crimes against humanity.

In this regard, he called on journalists not to show indifference to what is happening in the Middle East: Palestine, Iran and Lebanon. “In this profession there is only room for courageous men and women, who in this professional practice reject manipulations and falsehoods,” he said to the respect.

Salcedo highlighted the importance of communicators assuming “a full commitment to the defense of sovereignty, natural wealth, democracy and truth”, warning of the dangers of cognitive warfare and artificial intelligence.

In view of this, he expressed his strong support for President Maduro's recent statement on the holding of a world summit for peace and against war. “This is a momentous decision, because it is the sovereign policy adopted by our government, which has allowed us to face violence in this nation and must be extended to other peoples of the world,” he said.

Finally, the winner invited journalists and society in general to join and accompany President Maduro in this proposal for world peace. He suggested various forms of participation, including the dissemination of information, participation in debates and meetings from the media and other bodies, and organizing in communities to “sow interest in world peace”.
