Historic! Venezuela qualifies for the first time in an under-17 basketball world cup

Venezuela had a historic rendezvous this Friday when it decisively defeated the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinals of the FIBA AmeriCup U-16 2025 for the semifinals and one of the four tickets to the FIBA U-17 World Cup 2026.

Those led by Alexis Cedres came to the tournament as the champions of South America and before that the Caribbean scored 71 points against 53, thus registering their name in the World Cup in Turkey 2026 and entering the semifinals of the tournament that was played in Nicaragua.

The Criollos fell to Canada (62-66) and Puerto Rico (68-67), and closed the group stage with a victory over Brazil (75-67) and this afternoon at the mercy of the Dominicans 71-53.
