Hurricane Isaías made landfall this Friday, October 9 near Destin, Florida, around 20:30 central time, as a category 2 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 165 km/h, the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported, the Russian Today website reported.

In many low-lying and coastal areas, particularly in northwestern Florida, evacuation orders are in place. The storm weakened in the hours before it arrived ashore tonight.

Power outages across the region have left more than 400,000 customers in Florida and Alabama without power.

Isaías's maximum sustained winds dropped from 165 km/h when it made landfall to 136.7 km/h half an hour later. The storm is now a Category 1 hurricane.

Isaiah is expected to weaken as he moves rapidly inland through Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley over the weekend. The biggest threats continue to be floods —especially north of the center—, tornados and the dangerous waves associated with the phenomenon.
