The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, called Saturday's attack on the Zaporozhie nuclear power plant “a serious incident” that jeopardized key principles of nuclear safety.

“Attacks against nuclear facilities are unacceptable,” highlights a statement published in X by the IAEA, whose experts inspect the site of the impact of the Ukrainian drone on Europe's largest nuclear power plant, located in the Russian province.

A drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the building of the machine block of power unit number 6. The point of impact is located a few meters from the reactor.

This Sunday, the permanent representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, published a photo of the inspectors examining the damage caused by the device on a wall of the plant.

Previously, the IAEA pointed out that an incident of this type “would jeopardize both the seven pillars essential to guarantee nuclear safety during the conflict and the five concrete principles for protecting the Zaporozhie nuclear power plant, which clearly state that 'there must be no type of attack from or against the power plant'”.
