As part of the comprehensive plan for the rescue of the regional body of water, the Institute for the Conservation of the Lake Maracaibo Basin (ICLAM), extracted 200 tons of garbage from the Fénix ravine in the northern part of the Zulian capital.
The ICLAM, on its account of the social network Instagram, reported that the day is part of the committee's actions to monitor the effects of the rains.
In this regard, the president of ICLAM and coordinator of the conference, Edgard Jiménez Hernández, explained that “a multidisciplinary team and heavy machinery managed to remove more than 200 tons of solid waste from Cañada Fénix, at the height of the Miraflores Bridge in the Torito Fernández sector in the Antonio Borjas Romero parish of Maracaibo”.
“The Fénix ravine is the largest watercourse in Maracaibo and due to the total absence of maintenance on the part of the Maracaibera municipality, they become the largest waste repository in the Zulian capital,” he said.
The accumulation of waste, he said, ends up spreading in the waters of Lake Maracaibo with the rains.
