The National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents Autonomous Institute (IDENNA) celebrates this Wednesday, April 1st, the 26th anniversary of the entry into force of the Organic Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (LOPNNA), a legal instrument that transformed care for children and adolescents in our country. The LOPNNA was enacted by Commander Hugo Chávez and was the subject of a significant reform in 2007, which expanded and clarified various aspects related to the protection of children and adolescents, adapting to new social realities and improving the mechanisms of care, protection and participation of children and adolescents.
The entry into force of the instrument marked a before and after by opening spaces for Integral Protection through the recognition of children and adolescents as full subjects of law, guaranteeing their human development and their active participation in society.
During these 26 years, IDENNA, as the governing body of public policies in this area, has worked tirelessly to materialize the principles of the Law, including the Best Interest of the Child, which is the transversal axis in all decisions of the State and society; absolute priority, guaranteeing immediate and preferential attention in all services, and leading participation, so that their voices are heard.
26 years after the LOPNNA, IDENNA reaffirms its commitment to continue to ensure compliance with this law, working hand in hand with the Popular Power and the National System for the Protection of Children and Adolescents to ensure that every child and adolescent in Venezuela grows up in an environment of love, security and in full exercise of their rights.
