More than 500 people from Maturín, capital of the state of Monagas, participated in the Great Blue Walk for Autism Awareness, on the occasion of the International Autism Day being celebrated on April 2.

The tour started from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Carmen to the facilities of the La Guaricha Zoological Park.

Mariángela Martínez, director of the Municipal Park Institute, stated that “we are very happy to be able to carry out, for the second consecutive year, this great blue walk that aims to raise public awareness about autism and to make people aware that it is not a disease, but a condition. We are receiving more than 500 neurodivergent children, including participants in the Sensory Stimulation and Music Therapy program.”

At the end of the walk, the spaces of La Guaricha were transformed into a comprehensive care center with health personnel: pediatric, general medicine, immunization and nutrition operations through the Barrio Adentro Mission. Personal Care: Free barbershop and hairdressing services. Culture and Recreation: Presentations by the CELAN band, dance therapy with Marco Urbina's “rumbailetón” and the joy of Dr. Yaso's volunteers.
