This Thursday, an Air India passenger plane crashed at Ahmedabad airport, in western India. The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) reported that of the 242 people who were at the time of the accident, 230 were passengers, two pilots and ten crew members.

The incident occurred when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft was taking off from the airport for the city of London.

Flight AI171, which operated the Ahmedabad-London Gatwick route, was involved in an incident today, June 12, 2025. We are currently verifying the details and will share more updates as soon as possible,” the airline said.

Local media say that, at the time of takeoff, the plane was carrying an excessive load of fuel for the long flight, which aggravated the explosion and fire following the accident.
