Representatives
of Indigenous Peoples and the Afro-Venezuelan movement called for a major mobilization
for the Day of Indigenous Resistance on October 12, to vindicate
the historic struggle of native and Afro-descendant peoples, in addition to ratifying national independence.
This was
announced by the Minister
of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, through his account on
the social network Instagram, in which he stressed that the day to commemorate this
date will begin on Saturday, October 11.
“We are
preparing a tremendous October 12, Day of Indigenous Resistance, Day of Afro
Resistance and Day of Resistance of Our America, of our sacred
Venezuelanity, today in demand, challenged by history with a new episode
of harassment, of imperialist aggression against Venezuela,” he said.
For her part,
the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, indicated that
the mobilization will take place “in defense of peace and the Sovereignty of the Fatherland”
as a sign of resistance.
In addition, the deputy of the National Assembly, Yasneidi Guarnieri,
highlighted the multi-ethnic and multicultural nature of Venezuela, inviting people to take
part in the activities planned to commemorate this date in the state of Yaracuy.
The call is extended to the entire Venezuelan people to celebrate the country's cultural diversity and reaffirm the national identity.
