Indigenous peoples and the Afro-Venezuelan movement call for a major mobilization on October 12

Representatives of Indigenous Peoples and the Afro-Venezuelan movement called for a major mobilization for the Day of Indigenous Resistance on October 12, to vindicate the historic struggle of native and Afro-descendant peoples, in addition to ratifying national independence.

This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, through his account on the social network Instagram, in which he stressed that the day to commemorate this date will begin on Saturday, October 11.

“We are preparing a tremendous October 12, Day of Indigenous Resistance, Day of Afro Resistance and Day of Resistance of Our America, of our sacred Venezuelanity, today in demand, challenged by history with a new episode of harassment, of imperialist aggression against Venezuela,” he said.

For her part, the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, indicated that the mobilization will take place “in defense of peace and the Sovereignty of the Fatherland” as a sign of resistance.

In addition, the deputy of the National Assembly, Yasneidi Guarnieri, highlighted the multi-ethnic and multicultural nature of Venezuela, inviting people to take part in the activities planned to commemorate this date in the state of Yaracuy.
