The Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity (REDH) issued a strong international statement demanding the appearance alive and the immediate release of the activists who are members of the Global Sumud Maghreb peace delegation, who have been held since May 24 in North Africa.
The organization denounced that this action against the humanitarian convoy, which was transporting medicines and food to the Gaza Strip, is not an isolated event, but rather a coordinated policy to criminalize solidarity.
“Imperialism knows that effective unity among those who resist is its real threat. That is why they seek to separate a people from anyone who may come to accompany them in their fate. The silence surrounding this case is not neutral, it is not a bureaucratic delay or a diplomatic failure,” the REDH statement said, denouncing that the powers seek to unprotect militant internationalism.
The delegation, composed of neutral personnel, was intercepted after crossing the military checkpoint called 5+5 in Libya. Among those held are Argentinian citizens Paula Giménez and Lucas Aguilera, as well as members of Uruguay, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Tunisia and the United States, who are part of the Global Movement for Gaza, which brings together nearly 10,000 activists from more than 80 countries.
Faced with this situation, a coalition of parliamentarians, unions and human rights organizations has signed a declaration of urgency to demand security guarantees and the free movement of the convoy.
The Network of Intellectuals concluded its proclamation by reaffirming that the recovery of colleagues in solidarity with Palestine is, at present, an inescapable duty for all humanity in the face of the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
