The so-called “Flotilla of Firm”, made up of 54 boats and activists from 70 countries, sailed this Friday from the Turkish port of Marmaris, in the Mediterranean, with the objective of challenging the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
The initiative started from different parts of the coastal district of Marmaris, in the province of Muğla, after technical meetings and logistical preparations were held between the organizers and captains of the ships, reports PL.
The participants include members of the flotilla management, as well as numerous international activists, and the president of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions, Mahmut Arslan, is also participating in the journey.
The departure of the flotilla comes weeks after Israeli forces intercepted another maritime mission linked to the same organization in international waters off Crete.
The “Flotilla of Firm” is part of international efforts aimed at breaking the blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza since 2007.
Humanitarian organizations denounce that the siege aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave, especially after the Israeli military offensive that began in October 2023, which caused extensive destruction of infrastructure and massive population displacement.
