Iran condemns US military attack against Venezuela: It is a serious violation of peace and security

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the criminal military aggression of the United States (US) against Venezuela and stressed that it violates the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Persian country noted that “the military aggression of the United States against an independent State, a member of the United Nations, is a serious violation of regional and international peace and security, whose consequences will affect the entire international system and will further expose the system based on the Charter of the United Nations to erosion and destruction.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the U.S. military attack against Venezuela and the serious violation of the country's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The United States military attack against Venezuela is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and fundamental norms of international law, especially Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter, which prohibits the use of force, and is a “complete example of an act of aggression” that must be immediately and explicitly condemned by the United Nations and all governments interested in the rule of law, peace and international security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while recalling Venezuela's inherent right to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity and right to self-determination, notes the legal and moral responsibility of all governments and international organizations, especially the United Nations and its Security Council, to immediately stop the illegal aggression of the United States against Venezuela, and emphasizes the need to take the necessary measures to hold planners to account and perpetrators of the crimes committed during this military aggression.
