The Government of Iran denied having requested a meeting with the United States to resume negotiations interrupted after the 12-day conflict, during which nuclear facilities were attacked by American and Israeli forces.

“No request for a meeting has been submitted to the American side on our part,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei.

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump said that talks were planned between the two governments. “We have scheduled talks with Iran. They want to talk. I think they took a beating when we attacked all three sites,” he said from the White House.

Since April 12, both nations held five indirect meetings with the mediation of Oman, held in Muscat and Rome, with the objective of reaching a pact regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

During the process, disagreements persisted between Washington's conditions , which required the total dismantling of the program, and Tehran's position to maintain its project. Tensions culminated in an Israeli attack on June 13.
