Iran denounces double standards on nuclear inspections to the UN and demands an end to sanctions

During his speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, denounced the existence of double standards regarding inspections of atomic installations, questioning the pressure exerted on his country while omitting Israel's unsupervised war capabilities.

In his address to the multilateral forum, the Persian president criticized the international community's disparity of criteria, stating: “Atomic and nuclear bombs are in the hands of the Israeli regime, but inspectors are being asked to go to Iran. Israel has killed and massacred more than 70,000 innocent people in Gaza, but Iran, while sitting at the negotiating table, was bombed.”

Pezeshkian recalled that the Israeli government has an arsenal of mass destruction without belonging to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), also preventing delegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from entering its facilities. Faced with this scenario, he criticized the position of the Western powers led by the United States, stressing: “They kill and we are sanctioned. We are punished: the sick, the innocent, the poor and the most disadvantaged sectors of our society are the targets of these sanctions”.

The Iranian head of state confirmed that his nation's nuclear program pursues strictly civil and peaceful purposes, in contrast to the military aggressions suffered on his territory. In that sense, he rejected the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington, stating that “this is what the United States seeks to do with all countries: to sacrifice the population of a country to achieve illegitimate objectives.”
