This Thursday, Esmail Baqaei, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, launched a strong criticism against Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following recent statements by the official in which he admitted that he had no evidence of a systematic Iranian program to develop nuclear weapons.

The Iranian response comes after Grossi publicly acknowledged: “We had no evidence of a systematic effort on the part of Iran to move towards obtaining a nuclear weapon.”

This admission contrasts significantly with the content of the report previously issued by the IAEA, which, according to Tehran, served as a justification for subsequent hostile actions.

The Iranian criticisms directed at Grossi are about “betraying the non-proliferation regime” and turning the IAEA into an “accomplice in this unjust war of aggression”.

“Tehran believes that the international organization has become “a convenient tool for countries not members of the NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) to deprive the signatories of the NPT of their basic rights under article 4,” he stressed.
