The Foreign Minister of Iran, Seyed Abás Araqchi, warned this Sunday before the 17th BRICS Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, about the consequences of the aggressions of the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic.

“We must bear in mind that the consequences of this war of aggression will not be limited to a single country. The entire region, and beyond, will suffer. But more than that, the entire system of international law based on the United Nations is being undermined and pushed aside in favor of the violation of laws and malicious unilateralism,” he said.

The head of Persian Foreign Affairs stressed that the current moment is a “historic moment for human civilization, when a civilized nation has been the object of a war of unjust aggression by an actor who has no respect for any rule of law or ethics (...) The world, every State, every UN mechanism and every provision and multilateral group must be on alert and act now to put an end to impunity and to hold criminals responsible for their atrocious crimes and serious violations of international law in our region,” he said.

He also stressed that the BRICS must fulfill its role as a strong defender of international law and multilateralism, in support of the fundamental principles of the United Nations of the sovereign equality of all nations, the non-use of force and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Araqchi has detailed that the Israeli regime's attacks on Iran left more than six thousand civilians dead and injured, and has also destroyed infrastructure, as well as residential areas and nuclear facilities in Iran. “But even worse, this aggression was a lethal blow to diplomacy, the rule of law and the NPT regime,” he said.
