Presidential candidate Iván Cepeda reported that he will file criminal complaints against his political rival, Abelardo de la Espriella, before the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and the International Criminal Court. The legal action is based on serious accusations that include the crimes of conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime, terrorist financing and illegal enrichment, directly linking the applicant to paramilitary structures and alleged acts against humanity.

Cepeda explained that the file against De la Espriella contains evidence of his alleged participation in the selection of candidates for Congress with the support of illegal armed groups.

In addition, the charges include alleged bribes offered in detention centers and an alleged strategic contribution to favor the election of a former attorney general, actions that, according to the complainant, constitute a network of corruption and criminal influence.

The document presented by the prosecution maintains that De la Espriella not only acted as a funder, but also as an active funder of paramilitary organizations. The complainant candidate was emphatic in pointing out that the ultra-right candidate would have played a recruiting role for these structures, seriously compromising democratic institutions and the Colombian justice system.

With this announcement, the electoral contest of 2026 enters a phase of high political and legal tension. Cepeda reiterated that the seriousness of the events requires an exhaustive investigation by competent bodies to clarify the links between the political sector and organized crime, stressing that impunity in these cases would represent a setback for human rights and the rule of law in the country.
