As part of the anniversary program of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), the 67th anniversary Academic Conferences began, given by the winners of the 20th National Science, Technology and Innovation Awards Dr. Humberto Fernández Morán.

The conferences began with the Epidemiological Approach to Malaria in Endemic Areas of Venezuela, given by Mariana Hidalgo, head of the Immunoparasitology Laboratory of the Center for Microbiology and Cell Biology. Among the data provided during the conference is that 111,000 cases of malaria occurred in Venezuela in 2024 and the main transmission states are Bolívar, Anzoátegui, Zulia, Delta Amacuro and Amazonas, the institution's press release detailed.

The second conference, entitled Genomic Surveillance in the Health Service: Viral Emergencies, was given by Flor Pujol, head of the Molecular Biology Laboratory, who stressed that this arduous task began with the COVID-19 pandemic and that in the face of this emergency, the efficacy of vaccines and treatments had to be adapted as variants emerged.
