Sandra Pettovello, Minister of Human Capital of the Argentine Government of Javier Milei, announced this Monday, the 18th, that those who participate or promote protests that result in street closures will no longer receive social plans.

Through a recorded message, he reported that support programs for unemployed or low-income families, such as the Universal Child Allowance (AUH), the Empower Work or the Food Card, will be suspended for those who block traffic.

At the same time, he announced that social organizations will be audited and that the elimination of intermediaries will be sought in the administration of programs.

“The only ones who are not going to charge the plan are those who go to the march and cut off the road. As the president said: the one that cuts, does not charge,” he warned, a measure that has been identified as part of the repressive actions of the Argentine extreme right government to prevent protests against the “hunger package” launched by Milei and his team made up of former members of the past government of Mauricio Macri.

Among the measures that have been announced last week, the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, indicated that they will sanction and repress those who, by demonstrating, block traffic.

“Know that if you take to the streets, there are going to be consequences,” he warned, reporting, at a press conference, that the four federal forces will be able to liberate them.

Bullrich will soon have his first major challenge, which will be the march in commemoration of December 19 and 20, 2001, which will be carried out by picket groups and left-wing political organizations to commemorate the great social and economic crisis that the country went through.

The groups confirmed that they will mobilize despite the warnings, not only for the anniversary of the outbreak but also to protest against the first economic measures of the Milei administration.

The “public order protocol” presented by Minister Bullrich is considered a measure that criminalizes social protest and violates constitutional rights, organizations and political leaders denounce.
