The Bolivarian Government's Dialogue Commission did hold meetings with a United States delegation with the intention of lifting the unilateral sanctions illegally applied to Venezuela, but the administration of President Joe Biden has failed to comply with all the agreements signed in Doha , Qatar.
This was pointed out by the head of the Bolivarian Government delegation for dialogue, Jorge Rodríguez, who stressed that the attitude demonstrated by North American imperialism highlights the absence of a word. “You may be a superpower, but if you don't have words you're nothing,” he said.
At a press conference, held from the Federal Legislative Palace, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Rodríguez showed the two Memorandums of Understanding signed in Qatar, between Venezuela and the United States, on September 28.
In this regard, Rodríguez summarized the agreements between the two Governments with the facilitation of the Qatari authorities, demonstrating how the United States has failed to keep every word signed by Biden's delegates, led by the Undersecretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols.
For its part, since the Bolivarian Government, “we haven't stopped complying with a comma”.
He specified that since May 7, 2023, meetings have been held with representatives of the US government, in which the Venezuelan delegation stated that sanctions against the country are illegal, illegitimate and were contrary to international law.
Faced with the situation, he stressed that “it's always better to tell the truth. In 2023, the Republic of Venezuela and the United States signed two memorandums of understanding on the issue of migration and on the political, diplomatic and relations between governments.”
In this regard, he stated that on October 19, 2023, the U.S. government issued an ultimatum to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, to lift the disqualifications of political figures who failed to comply with Venezuelan laws.
“We respect our word, we will never tolerate ultimatums. It is necessary to see who kept and who did not keep their word and commitment. There are photographic records of the meeting that took place in Qatar. Write down who has a word and who doesn't, who has dignity and who doesn't,” he insisted.
Rodríguez said that “if we have to speak for our dignity, for our independence and sovereignty, we are willing to talk to whoever wants to talk.”
On the electoral issue, he said that “all candidates who meet the requirements established by the Act can participate. If they do not comply with the Constitution and laws, we cannot guarantee that the Constitution and laws are violated. We said it dozens of times.”
“A disqualified person must go to court, to receive the petition, analyze it, sentence and conclude. We said whoever brought violence, sanctions, blockades, a criminal like Borges, López, Guaidó were still asking for sanctions,” he said.
Rodríguez said that “we maintain the maximum, with our dignity and decency and attachment to our Constitution, independence and sovereignty, making it clear that Venezuela is not a protected country, it is sovereign, always making that clear, we are willing to talk to anyone who wants to talk to. The search has always been to eliminate sanctions against Venezuela, sanctions that should never have been imposed.”
Another point, he reported that the immigration agreement, which is part of the Doha agreements, is also suspended due to the non-compliance of the Biden administration.
“The migration agreement is suspended. The same day that the EMTRASUR plane was stolen, the same day that it was brutally and scoundly taxed in Miami, we considered the migration agreement broken because we have a word, and we will speak up when they recover the word and the signature,” he said.
