The governor of the state of Apure, Wilmer Rodríguez, expressed his condolences for the death of the singer José Alí Nieves, known as the “Gran Pico de Oro”, whom he highlighted as one of the most representative voices in llanera music.

Through his Instagram account, the regional president pointed out that the Llanera region and the Colombian-Venezuelan axis are mourning the departure of the artist, whom he described as a reference for Apureña's identity and the musical tradition of the plain.

“His physical departure leaves a deep emptiness in his family, friends, acquaintances and in the entire plain that in his voice he heard the genuine beating of the savanna, the strength of the joropo and the depth of the llanero sentiment,” he said.

Rodríguez also stressed that the interpreter's legacy will endure in Venezuelan culture. “Today his notes and his immortal voice join the eternal chorus of our culture, leaving an imperishable legacy for new generations,” he said.

José Alí Nieves was recognized as one of the main exponents of llanera music, a genre that constitutes one of the most deeply rooted cultural manifestations in the plains of Apure and in the Colombian-Venezuelan axis.
