Venezuelan second baseman José Altuve was placed on the injured list by the Houston Astros for 10 days, after suffering a grade 2 strain in his left oblique.

Altuve was injured on Saturday, May 16 during a game against the Texas Rangers, after a swing in the eighth inning at Daikin Park.

The Astros coaching staff did not offer an estimated date for the return of the experienced second baseman.

The last time the Venezuelan went on the disabled list was almost three years ago, during the 2023 season.

The loss of Altuve is a serious blow to the eleventh that started the season with 14 players on the injured list and for now rookie Brice Matthews will take the position of the Venezuelan waiter.
