This month, the state of La Guaira has completed the shipment of 112 tons of fish products to European markets, mainly octopus, as part of the economic expansion program promoted by the Special Economic Zone (ZEE).

“We are consolidating operations that strengthen the non-oil economy,” said the single authority of the ZEE, Marcos Meléndez.

Meléndez explained that this result is part of a series of nine ongoing projects aimed at expanding productive capacity, attracting foreign capital and generating foreign exchange, Radio Miraflores reported.

“Every advance confirms that La Guaira has the conditions to become an industrial, logistics and tourist hub,” he said.

Among the ongoing initiatives, he cited the construction of the wheat milling factory in Catia la Mar and the tourist developments in Caraballeda, where the Camurimar and Bahía Sunset hotels are located. He also highlighted the drafting of the territorial regulatory plan, an instrument that will define investment areas and urban growth. “We are organizing the territory so that economic expansion has a clear path,” he said.

The management plan envisages three axes: an agricultural corridor in Carayaca with an agro-industrial projection; a central block associated with the port and the airport for industrial and customs activities; and a coastal axis intended for tourism, construction and services. “We are taking up the strategic guidelines proposed by Commander Hugo Chávez on productive diversification,” Meléndez added.

He stated that these projects are aimed at consolidating an integral growth model based on the state's port, industrial and tourist vocation.
