La Guaira hosts National Weight Championship heading to Argentina's South American Games

The José María Vargas dome in the state of La Guaira hosts, from June 9 to 12, the 2026 Under-23 and Major National Weight Championship, which will define the athletes who will represent Venezuela in the VII South American Games to be held in Santa Fe, Argentina, this year.

Eight men, eight women and two substitutes, for a total of 20 athletes, will complete the Venezuelan national team that will participate in the regional sporting event.

The National Championship brings together 89 female and 101 male athletes for a total of 190, from the states of Amazonas, Apure, Aragua, Barinas, Bolivar, Carabobo, Caracas, Falcón, Guárico, La Guaira, Miranda, Monagas, Sucre, Táchira, Trujillo, Yaracuy and Zulia.

This competition is being held under the guidelines of recent changes in the international regulations of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), specifically in the restructuring of weight classes, according to a press release from VTV.
