The Attorney General of the Republic, Larry Devoe, stated during the deployment ceremony for the review of preventive centers for deprivation of liberty that the ongoing consultation process is making it possible to hear about the structural problems of the justice system and to move towards concrete actions that complement the institutional revival.
“The consultation process that is under way is listening to the structural problems of the justice system and which are complementary restorative initiatives that allow us not to remain in a diagnosis, but to take concrete action towards important objectives; the fight against procedural delay is one of them,” he said.
He indicated that recent socio-demographic diagnoses of the population deprived of their liberty show that 75 percent of convicted persons admitted the facts, which shows that, given the procedural delay, many choose to admit it to reduce the time spent in detention.
The Attorney General maintained that these data confirm the need to correct distortions and to move forward with measures that guarantee timely responses within the criminal system.
