This Wednesday, the institutional forum called “La Guaira Special Economic Zone: Legal, Environmental and Urban Challenges” was held, organized by representatives of the Special Economic Zone (ZEE) of La Guaira.
From the Planeta Sotavento Shopping Center, this space for debate, aimed at the councilors of the Vargas municipality and the legislators of the State Legislative Council, was intended to present the legal and economic variables linked to the ZEE Master Plan, an initiative that seeks a precise articulation with the Local Urban Development Plan (PDUL) and the Spatial Planning Plan.
The event was attended by the president of the Center for Comprehensive Environmental Studies of the Central University of Venezuela, Gilberto Buenaño, who addressed the viability of the Master Plan from the perspective of adaptation to climate change, environmental management and risk mitigation in the region.
For his part, the sole authority of the ZEE of La Guaira, Professor Marcos Meléndez, presented the legal and political perspectives surrounding this project in the current socio-economic context, and urged the Legislative Council to create a regional incentive plan for international investment, while asking the Municipal Chamber to continue the design of the PDUL.
The day also saw a notable attendance of regional political leaders, spokespersons for communes and representatives of local self-government chambers. This massive call seeks the active incorporation of the communal model into the coastal zone planning system.
